Core Value: DIGNITY

Dignity. It’s one of the core values we hold close at Alongside Families: We empower and do-with rather than compel and do-for.

For an isolated family in crisis, dignity can feel out of reach.

Parents living in poverty often find themselves navigating systems, policies, and waitlists that are confusing, overwhelming, and hard to access. In the middle of it all, struggling parents can begin to feel powerless, like their ability to make decisions for themselves and their children has been taken away.

That’s why the small things matter so much:

A warm, caring person answering the Support Line and taking time to hear your story. Sitting down with a Host Family as peers getting to know one another. Choosing who will host your child. Being consulted as the expert on your child’s needs. Hearing your strengths spoken aloud in place of criticism. Being prayed for and encouraged by volunteers who bring their own vulnerability and humanity into the relationship.

These simple moments communicate dignity, worth, and choice. And they make a world of difference. We are deeply grateful for volunteers who embody the heartbeat of this ministry in the way they serve.

When a family in crisis invites us into one of their most vulnerable moments, we are invited onto holy ground.

It is a rare and beautiful privilege—one that calls us to walk alongside them with great care, humility, and reverence so that every family hears the truth, “You are precious in the sight of God.”
