We believe that humans were created to thrive within community. Social isolation deeply impacts families, often leading to generational cycles of trauma and family fracturing. We connect isolated families to supportive relationships that foster family strengthening and thriving.
We live by these core values at Alongside Families, centering ourselves around these questions:
Grace: Am I suspending judgement and seeking to understand?
Community: Am I choosing together instead of trying to go it alone?
Relationship: Am I emphasizing relationships over transactions?
Dignity: Am I empowering and doing-with rather than compelling and doing-for?
Gospel-centered: Am I loving my neighbors as Christ loves me?
Excellence: Am I rooting my service in best practices and what works?
We seek to do the following:
Engage church partners to lead a movement of the Body of Christ that recruits volunteers to serve families
Train and equip volunteers to champion family preservation by hosting children and walking alongside parents
Maintain lasting relationships between volunteers, families served, and the community
We are a volunteer-driven, staff-supported organization. Our volunteers actively take Alongside Families into the community. Our staff team supports and trains each volunteer, engages churches, coordinates and supervises hostings of children and mentoring of parents, and much more.
Our board structure is designed to provide governance, engagement, and accountability at a local level. Our wonderful board members come from various backgrounds including nonprofit consulting, business, law, and management.
