"Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8
Recently, a volunteer called to let us know that she had not been unresponsive or disengaged. In fact, quite the opposite was true: she has remained in ongoing relationship with four moms she first met through Alongside Families.
She continues to check in, share life, offer encouragement, and walk alongside them - not because our staff is arranging every interaction, but because real and authentic relationships have formed.
This is the goal.
From the beginning, the vision and mission of Alongside Families have remained consistent and steady: to connect isolated families with local church communities that champion family preservation and thriving.
We may respond to an immediate need, coordinate an introduction, provide support, or help establish a safe and healthy connection.
But the deeper hope has always been that these initial connections will grow into lasting relationships, that isolation will give way to belonging, and carefully coordinated care will become genuine community.
Our hope is not that families become dependent upon Alongside Families. Our hope is that, through Alongside, families become connected to people and communities who will continue to know them, support them, pray for them, remember them, and remind them again and again that they are not alone.
Sometimes the clearest evidence that our mission is working is that Alongside staff no longer need to remain in the middle of a relationship. When a relationship no longer depends upon staff coordination, we celebrate.
This is what family preservation and thriving can look like - not simply a crisis resolved, but isolation interrupted by relationships that endure.
To every volunteer who continues to send the text, remember the birthday, share the meal, pray the prayer, celebrate the progress, and remain present through the hard days: thank you. Please know that these seemingly small acts are not small at all. Your quiet faithfulness is carrying forward the very vision and mission that have guided Alongside Families from the beginning.
You are helping connection become community.
And what a blessing it is for us to be in this work with you.
