Bringing Light to Life's Hard Seasons

In March 2024, Dawn reached out to Alongside Families while living in a transitional housing program and walking through a personal crisis. She enrolled in our Renew Program, where we partnered her with a local church. That introduction was the start of a relationship that has continued to grow in life-giving ways.

Through that connection, Dawn discovered a community she hadn’t known before, people who showed up in her life in meaningful ways. She shared, “they sent thank-you cards, invited me to birthday parties, welcomed us to Thanksgiving, and even hosted Pokémon tournaments. These friendships brought light during one of our darkest seasons.”

Over time, she’s been surprised with thoughtful gifts including Christmas presents from one of our partners The Cannon School, Mother’s Day surprises from our partner Uptown Church, and everyday reminders that she is not alone.

Just recently, Dawn reached out again - this time seeking help with beds through one of our referring agencies. She and her young son had been sharing one bed, but she knew it would be better for both of them to have their own space. Through our partnership with Niner Christian Life ChurchStoryhill Church, and Beds for Kids, volunteers and agencies stepped in to meet the need. Dawn could not stop praising how Alongside Families and the people who said yes changed her story.

Think about the last hard moment in your life. Who did you call? Now imagine the answer being “no one.” That’s the reality for many families in our city. Alongside Families stands in that gap, connecting neighbors to a caring church family and practical support.

You can be part of the next story like Dawn’s. Say yes by becoming a Host Family, a Community Friend, or a Family Coach - meeting practical needs while building relationships that change lives.
